Far too often are we running to the local pharmacy for conventional medicines like Aspirin when we have ailments like headaches and stomach aches; forgetting we have a (Farm)acy right in our back yards. Nature! Nature has been set aside and we as a people forget that it is not only an option, it is the only option when it comes to our health. Nature is the way and was the way of our ancestors. We as a people have to "re" member how nature can help us be the best with her natural whole medicines. We know mostly about herbs that are used to make teas, which is one of the best forms of extracting the medicinal benefits of the herbs. Also, we cook with a lot of herbs, such as oregano, basil, parsley, thyme, and the beloved cilantro also known as coriander. It's like we have the idea of partaking in the medicinal benefits of nature, most are somewhat clueless of how to use them properly without destroying them in the process. Here are a list of common herbs and their benefits  and uses, so that you may start your journey back to Eden a.k.a Paradise, where nature is the way.

 Aloe: The gel extracted from aloe leaves topically treats minor burns, cuts, scrapes and sunburn. In addition, it keeps skin smooth and supple and can treat acne and other skin problems as well. Digestive help Aloe contains aloin, which  gives aloe vera its laxative properties and may help treat constipation. It has a full spectrum of B vitamins including B12 needed for nervous system health and energy.  Studies have been shown that aloe reduce  inflammation, internally and externally.

Basil: This Italian-food favorite can aid in inducing relaxation and reducing stress. Basil is sweet yet peppery herb that is rich in eugenol and rosmarinic acid; these substances plays a role in helping your brain produce more dopamine and serotonin.  These are the feel good drugs that improves your mood and you will feel happier.  Basil can even make your body produce less cortisol, a hormone that causes you to feel stressed.

Cayenne: This spicy pepper adds heat to your food and speeds up the metabolism. Cayenne pepper also helps  decrease swelling in the body with the  compound called capsaicin. This ingredient can block the signals from a natural chemical in your brain that causes inflammation. Thus, you can experience great benefits from less congestion in your nose to relief from headache pain. Capsaicin also aids in blood flow, making it easier for your heart to pump blood. 

Garlic: Garlic is a natural antibiotic, preventing infections and this herb can prevent certain types of cancer. Garlic is also full of powerful plant compounds called phytochemicals. These can aid your heart by lowering your blood pressure and keeping blockages from forming in your blood vessels.

Ginger: Drink ginger to calm an upset stomach although spicy, this root relieves nausea and stomach discomfort — whether they’re due to pregnancy, seasickness or even cancer treatments. This herb also helps for better blood flow as a result lowering your blood pressure.

Mint: Cooling menthol mint doesn’t just taste refreshing and invigorating, this herb can relieve symptoms of stomach discomfort. Mint is full of menthol that  helps your body produce more bile, a liquid produced by your liver that your body uses to process the food you eat. In turn, mint can help you digest your food better and more efficiently. This herb also helps lower your cholesterol levels and keep healthy blood flow .
